PR Newswire regularly sends out a great deal of travel press releases that cover a number of topics. For example, more than 1,500 travel-related releases went out via PR Newswire in March and April alone.

With the demand for travel at such a high level, travel news is also growing. Consumers are ready to spend money on travel, and companies have an array of options to offer them. March and April saw mentions of "spring break" and news from the cruise industry go up. We also saw an uptick in travel-related technology announcements.

Let’s take a look at the travel trends we noticed over this two-month period.

Some of the Most Popular Travel Releases

Over the past two months, these travel press releases received a standout number of reads and/or engagement:

  • Wynn Resorts announced details about its new luxury resort in the United Arab Emirates in April. The beachfront resort will be named Wynn Al Marjan Island. However, you’ll have to wait until 2027 to check it out.
  • Good news for U.S. travelers looking to head to Australia and New Zealand. United will be adding 40% more flights from the West Coast to these destinations later this year.
  • Next year, the Dallas-Fort Worth area will be a travel destination for families when it becomes home to North America's second Peppa Pig Theme Park.
  • In March, REI Co-op released the Trailmade collection. This collection for hiking and backpacking aims to be both inclusive and affordable for those looking to be outdoors.
  • Choice Hotels started a new campaign with Zooey Deschanel as its “Fairy Hotel Mother.” The marketing campaign is meant to help simplify the hotel booking process for consumers.

Travel News Trends

Here’s a look at a few of the trends we noticed among travel-related press releases in March and April, with a few examples of each.

Spring Break

It’s that time of year. Most of the country is emerging from the cold and snow of winter, and they want to take a trip somewhere warm. Or at least escape work or school for a few days. In 2023, spring break travel was expected to top pre-pandemic levels.

From college students to families, spring break is a peak travel time for many. Domestic destinations like Florida and Las Vegas remained popular for U.S. spring break travelers this year. However, international spring break travel was also expected to be up in 2023.

Here are a few examples of spring break press releases from March and April:

Cruising

The resiliency of the cruise industry is currently on display. The COVID-19 pandemic was hard on the entire travel industry, but the cruise industry was hit especially hard. Ships could not sail for more than a year, which resulted in the loss of billions of dollars. Now, cruising is back in a BIG way. People are ready to travel again, and cruise lines of all sizes and price points have been seeing record bookings. Confirmation of this can be seen in the almost 200 press releases in March and April that mentioned "cruising."

The large cruise lines are all competing to have the next best thing at sea. From new beach clubs and itineraries to roller coasters on ships, cruise lines are giving consumers even more options.

March and April delivered some of these interesting releases:

Travel Technology

Companies are constantly developing technology that can make traveling easier for companies and/or the consumer. PR Newswire press releases in March and April covered how organizations from airlines to hotels to golf courses are using technology in new and innovative ways.

Topics included booking solutions for hotels, maintenance software for airlines, technology to enhance the guest experience, and even a locating and tracking device that helps people locate their skis with their mobile devices.

Here are just a few of the exciting new technology options for travel:

Takeaways

Spring break travel will soon turn into summer travel. Even with economic concerns, travel demand remains strong. Will cruise demand remain high? That remains to be seen. However, technological advances in travel should continue to reach new heights.
